Taisar Town Church Attack

The recent attack on Christians in Taisor Town, Karachi, is a continuation of the persecution and mistreatment that began years ago against the Church in Pakistan. The attack appeared well-organized, with many Taliban militants using heavy firearms to threaten unarmed Christian elders, women, and children. The Taliban wrote slogans against Christianity on the walls of the Church in Taisor Town on the night of April 21, 2009, demanding that Christians accept Islam. This act deeply horrified and harassed the Christian residents.

On April 22, 2009, the local Christian community organized a peaceful procession in the area to draw the attention of the local administration for their protection. However, no action was taken, and no police guards were provided for the Church’s security. Later that day, many masked Taliban militants infiltrated Taisor Town and attacked the Christians with heavy machine guns. In fear, Christian families locked themselves in their homes, but the attackers pulled elders out at gunpoint and dragged women by their hair in the streets, humiliating them.

According to some survivors, the Taliban loudly declared, “You infidels must convert to Islam or die. If you wish to live here, you must pay Jizya. Why did you erase our warnings written on the Church walls and home doors? How dare you protest against the Taliban? We will wipe you out from this land.” Some men in the area tried to resist the attack, but the militants did not listen and opened fire. A 12-year-old boy was executed in front of his father. Several others were shot in the neck, arms, and legs, leaving many injured.

The police were present at the scene during the attack but did nothing to intervene. The victims cried for help, but the authorities stood by as helpless spectators. After three hours of continuous firing, the Rangers finally arrived to rescue the Christian community. By then, the attackers had already set homes and shops on fire, reducing everything to ashes.

Muazzam John, the Founder Chairman of Nehemiah Trust Pakistan and Nehemiah Team, took immediate steps to help the affected Christians. Upon receiving distress calls, he and his team visited the area to assess the situation. Condemning the attack, he stated, “This is nothing less than the genocide of Christians here.”

Despite the severity of the incident, the government did not announce any relief for the victims who lost their homes and loved ones.

Christians worldwide are urged to pray for these suffering families, asking God to grant them peace and protection. The attackers remain committed to crushing and destroying Christians in Pakistan, threatening to return. In this hour of need, let us extend a helping hand to our Christian brothers and sisters by providing donations so they can rebuild their homes and restart their lives.
